I'm gonna Party like it's My Birthday!

In the Korean history, due to a lack of medical information, Korea's seasonal temperature differences, and many childhood related diseases, the death rate for children was extremely high. Many children died before their first birthday. After the age of one year, the survival rate steeply increased, making the first birthday milestone a very happy one for the child's parents.

Today we celebrated our little guy's 1 year Birthday (Korean translation: Tol) with a few of our friends and family and held the Toljabee event which is one component to the Tol celebration.

We did not hold a complete Traditional Tol Celebration which includes: 1) Praying and giving thanks 2) Making and wearing the birthday clothes 3) Preparing the table and performing the Toljabee 4) Sharing the food with guests and neighbors

However we did perform the Toljabee event (selected items in which the child selects from which will gain insight to to the child's future and personality) and selected the following items:

  • Silver Spoon- Child will be a good cook
  • Thread – child will live long
  • Money – child will be rich
  • Pen – child will be a scholar
  • Paintbrush – child will be an artist
  • Remote – child will be involved with technology
  • Rice – child will have prosperity

The thread was chosen first, rice second and the pen last. Outr little guy will live a prosperous and long life while being scholarly. Look out world if all these come true, regardless still look out world.
