Summer Snow

This past weekend Colorado has been under a cold front and some weather moved in. My mom and niece, Emily are in town and we were starting to get a bit house crazy since the rain dove us indoors the last three (3) days. We packed up the car on Sunday with the pooches and headed to the mountains. The clouds grew as we climbed up from the front range and sun turned to clouds, clouds turned to rain and rain turned to snow by the time we got to Summit Lake at the base of Mount Evans Peak (14,270'). At 12000' the temperature was at freezing. We pulled over to have a quick snowball fight and then headed down to Idaho Springs for a quick bite to eat. Idaho Springs is where the western Gold Rush started before it moved out to California and up to Alaska. We stopped at TommyKnocker brewery and had some homemade Rootbeers and Orange Creme sodas before heading back home. Amazing that August 18th you can still get 8 inches of snow at elevations above 12,000'.
